In March 2014, the Chinese restaurant was shut down by council health officials because it was found to be in need of a pest control company.
The popular restaurant had evidence of an infestation of mice.
Environmental health officials also found the Chinese restaurant to have very poor hygiene conditions.
‘The Real China’ in Medway is just one of a number of their branches. They have eateries all over the UK. They are a buffet establishment with an ‘all you can eat’ policy. They pride themselves on using the best suitable ingredients for their authentic Chinese recipes. Unfortunately good food is not so appetising for the diner if standard of care is inadequate, resulting in problems with pests.

The health officials found the kitchen, along with other food areas to be lacking when it came to hygiene and the standards of cleanliness were generally found to be poor.
The staff were advised to shut up shop immediately after being served with a Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Notice. This means that the EHO felt that there was ample evidence of risk to the public, due to the condition of the premises.

It is better to pay out a little now, than a lot later. It is essential to the running of any food business to keep standards to the highest when it comes to cleanliness, as mice along with other pests (cockroaches etc.) can carry extremely dangerous diseases, so the authorities are fully within their rights (legally and morally) to cease trading immediately.
The staff at ‘The Real China’ were very cooperative with the EHO and complied with all the advice they were given. They were ready for business in under a week.
The restaurant has now reopened.
